Wednesday the 15th. April.
5:10 pm
I was late for dinner. I had my own dinner at 4:30pm, and time got away from me. I still haven’t adjusted to the summer sun cycle. I scambled next door to get the guys fed, and was greeted at the door by two guys that had been playing already, by the way they were moving around. It wasn’t dinner time. It was walk time.
We went across to the park, and got as far as the first patch of grass after the memorial when Bubba turned us around. Then we went up the hill, about 20 yards past the gated community when Bubba turned us around.
It was slow, and we barely went anywhere, but we walked for 35 minutes (two walks today, about the same length of time). Buddy pooped. Bubba did not.
2 pm
I went back over to check on the guys, with my portable office. They didn’t want to walk. Bubba didn’t want to get out of his bed. Buddy was chin-down on the hardwood floor by the door. It wasn’t hot inside. It was even almost a bit chilly. I opened the door to the deck a bit more than I had it, to let in some warmer air. Bubba watched me moving around a little, but then went back to sleep.
After getting my laptop open and starting work, Buddy hopped up on the couch next to me – on the seat, not the back of the couch. He wasn’t looking for attention, just wanted to lie down beside me. He stayed for a while before hopping down and moving over to the recliner.
When I reached a good stopping point, I went outside to sit on the deck and get some sun. Buddy came and looked out the door at me, then went back to the livingroom. 30 seconds later, Bubba came and looked at me, then vanished. Half a minute later it was Buddy again, checking me out. Then Bubba, but this time Bubba came outside. He flopped down by the outside closet door to soak up heat from the deck and direct sun, but after 5 minutes or so moved over to the deck bed and went to sleep.
Buddy came to the door again to check on us, but didn’t come out. Then he vanished back into the house, but emerged again almost immediately out of the bedroom dog door. His head poked out, surveyed the scene, then he came out and sat down under the iron table. I coaxed him up on the other chair, and he jumped up and sat for a while. He doesn’t seem comfortable on the chairs anymore, which makes me wonder if he has fallen off or something, at some point. He sat, but wouldn’t lie down. He opted to jump off, and moved to relax on the deck between Bubba and I.
I had left my phone on the coffee table, and I heard the email notification, so I got up to get it. Buddy ran inside ahead of me. Bubba felt me opening the screen door, woke up, and entered the house as if I’d opened the door for his use instead of mine. I didn’t mean to disturb them. It was really nice outside; quite and relaxing. I grabbed my phone and returned outside, but they didn’t follow me back out, and hopped back into beds and recliners.
Noon
I took a break from work and chores to go hang out with the guys for an hour, but it didn’t last that long.
Bubba was resting in the piano bed. Buddy was at the door when I came in. I did a quick check of the pads and water dishes, while Buddy flopped by the front door to chew on a bunny. After making my rounds, Bubba had woken up, and was sitting in the bed, with his front paws out of the bed. Back half sitting, front half standing. He didn’t get out of the bed any further. I stopped to play Tug with Buddy and the bunny, and Bubba just stayed there. I let Buddy “win” and get the bunny away from me, so I could go sit with Bubba.
Bubba stayed in that position when I sat down next to the bed. We just stayed there a while, petting and scratching. After a spell, he got up to wander around me, but staying within attention-giving range. He then went to the bathroom to relieve himself, and Buddy ran over to get some chin scratching. When Bubba came back, he pushed his way back in and Buddy returned to his bunny. Bubba only stayed a minute, then joined by sitting by the front door. I took that as a Walk Time signal.
Buddy wanted to walk. Bubba returned to the piano bed and turned his back on me. So Buddy and I went out alone.
We walked across the parking log, and went out the path towards the greenbelt between the condos and the path to PCH, and sniffed our way towards the back of the complex. Then we turned by Derith’s condo towards the parking lot. Outside of the dumpster enclosure, we stopped moving. For some reason, we’d had enough walking – maybe the heat. We turned and went home.
The walk was only about 10 minutes, no poop. My visit was only about 40 minutes before both guys were napping again.
8:40 am
The guys were both awake this morning. Buddy greeted me at the door. Bubba was in the front door bed, licking a paw with his head down so much it looked like he was sleeping and the head was bobbing in a dream. He didn’t hear me come in, and continued his grooming without noticing me at all.
There were no accidents. The bathroom pee pad needed changing. Bubba noticed me as I was doing the situation check, and he got up. I put out the day food, got the guys dressed and we went out.
It was a short walk, 35 minutes. Both guys pooped.
