Thursday. 9th of July
10:45 pm
The guys shut down a little earlier. Bubba pretty much spent the whole evening in bed. We played twice today, but moderately – not a ton of running – so I don’t think I wore him out. Buddy runs full-out, every time we play fetch and gatekeeper, but he can take it. They did a better job of eating today, though “they” was mostly Buddy.
I ran home to get dinner around 7, and while I was gone Bubba pooped in the bathroom. I was surprised there was anything in the little guy after going twice on one walk earlier in the day. Much better in the bathroom than the kitchen.
I think we all had fun today. I know I did. The gaming felt good. It’s always good seeing Bubba running and jumping.
8:15 pm
Bubba dropped into the fireplace bed pretty much as soon as we got back. Buddy was up and around.
Near 7 pm something outside got his attention, and he ran back and forth from the deck to the open front door, letting out intermitent throaty barks. I looked out both front and back, and saw nothing. No people, no dogs, no wild beasts. I don’t know what he was barking at.
4:50 pm
Bubba got up. He had a lot of energy. He did another launch off the couch jump, and then “attacked” Buddy, who played back at Bubba. It’s fun watching them acting like puppies.
Bubba came over and stared at me. He didn’t want to be picked up and lifted onto the couch. He moved over to the rug by the front door, turned, and stared again. I got it. It was walk time, to do something with all of that energy. I got up. He moved out of the way and say near the dining table – near the leash basket (I thought). Definite walk signal. I told him I’d be right back. I ran next door to use the bathroom before we left – in case it was another long walk.
I got back, and I saw that I was mistaken. I had forgotten the new schedule. Bubba wasn’t sitting by the leashes, he was sitting by the kitchen. And now that I had left (and come back) he was scarfing down the last of what was on the treats plate. I looked at my watch. Just after 4:30 – the new dinner time. Oops.
I got dinner put out quickly, and they both nibbled, but not much. Bubba wanted to walk. So maybe I wasn’t wrong? We got hooked up, and went out. We walked briskly up to the gate out to PCH. The pace was strong until we got to the path, and then slowed down to an easier stroll. Buddy was in a frisky mood, and lunged after one bicyclist, a motorcycle and a BMW. He could see the biker, but the two motor vehicles went by when we were behind hedges, and he couldn’t see them. He lunged forward at the sound, and if not for the leash, would have chased them down the highway.
We walked a bit over 30 minutes. Down the path and back home. Neither guy pooped.
2:50 pm
The entire afternoon was slept away. I stole Buddy’s chair, while he was lounging under the piano. I reclined and tinkered with things on my tablet. Bubba continued to stay parked on the back of the couch. He started snoring, and the rhythmic pace of his light snoring put me to sleep. What a sorry bunch of lazy dudes we are.
At just before 3, I was tinkering and Buddy was lying on the seat cushion closest to the recliner – and me – when he suddenly jumped up and went to the door. I thought it must be an emergency bathroom run, so I got up quickly and got ths gear. We went right out, but it was just a walk. There was no emergency.
We circled around the building, and the building between ours and Selva. We went back and forth on a couple of the paths, and the same way more than once on two paths. We did a lot of stopping and intensely studying sents in the air. There seemed to be no point at all – it was just a walk to get out and walk.
We barely went anywhere, walked 30 minutes and did no pooping.
9:45
We went out for a walk. It was a long walk, all the way across the park and back. Both guys pooped twice – a first for this team. We walked for a little over an hour, then we came back and the dudes went back to sleep.
8:15 am
I was wrong last night. I forgot how this all works. Despite the sleeping all day, the guys were up until after 11pm. They had no interest in getting up early today.
Buddy slept through me coming up the stairs, and woke when I opened the front door. He yawned from his perch on the couch. He didn’t bother to get up to greet me. Bubba was curled up in a ball in the fireplace bed.
There were no accidents. The bathroom pee pad needed changing. I put out breakfast and sat down to waste time on my tablet until the guys were ready to go out.
