The 17th of November. Monday
10:55 pm
Bubba scared me. All the lights in the living room are off except the stained glass lamp by the couch. Bubba started yipping suddenly. He was dreaming. I don’t think he’s done that since last year.
10:45 pm
Everything is cleaned up. The guys are – were – sleeping. Bubba is passed out in the piano bed. Buddy was asleep on the back of the couch, but some people are now outside – sounding like they just returned from a night out, or having guests over, saying their goodbyes – loud enough to make Buddy focus on them.
The guys ate everything today, except for Bubba’s treats. Buddy usually gets to finish off the treats, but not when there is medication. Glucosamine isn’t a narcotic, so it’s probably fine, but I’m not a vet, so I’m sticking to the dosage instructions.
I made extra-sure to clean up any food things, since it’s been raining hard and flooding from rain always stirs up ant nests. Even though they sprayed around the building recently, ants can come from a long way off. I don’t want to deal with that, so preventative efforts are worth it.
I still have some work to finish before I go.
8 pm
I ran home for coffee, and when I got back I was greeted at the door and I got nose-poked by one guy, the other guy ran to get a toy to taunt me with. The games had begun!
After 15 or 20 minutes of gaming, it was time for treats. Bubba looked great, running very fast, no discomfort.
I need to try a different glucosamine supplement. The guys don’t like these at all. Buddy thinks about a long time when I dice the Milk Bones and glucosamine tablets together. He’ll take the flea meds when chopped up with the Milk Bones or pretty much anything else, but he’s reluctant to touch these. I chop them up and feed them to him from my hand. He eventually gives in to get the Milk Bones, but it takes a while.
Bubba won’t eat his at all tonight, ignoring Milk Bone and True Chew – but it’s harder to tell if that’s just Bubba’s mood for the night, or if it’s the medication. Sometimes he just doesn’t eat the tablets.
7 pm
I ran to the store to get some people food for my house, and some beef – bought the only package they had – and some hot dogs which were on sale again.
5 pm
I screwed up. We were out of hot dogs, and on a night when the guys were hungry. Well, either they were hungry, or they enjoyed not having hot dogs in their bowls. They ate everything in both bowls in one visit. They had extra chicken and beef in both bowls, so it was a regular-size dinner, just lacking hot dogs.
Tomorrow we’ll get burgers to make up for my mistake.
2 pm
Second walk of the day. We ent a slighly different route today, up the path to PCH about 60% of the way before Bubba decided that he had had enough. We made our way back down the path, but we went across to the park, not home, after.
We walked about 40 minutes, not very far or very fast. Nobody pooped. Clouds were approaching from the south that looked ominous.
9 am
I refilled water dishes and bottles, changed the interior pee pad and did yesterday’s dishes. Then I sat down with Bubba for a bit. He was reverse-sneezing today, which is a good sign. He doesn’t seem to have issues hacking phlegm on days when he has reverse sneezes. For some reason, the two don’t seem to happen on the same day, and the reverse sneeze seems like much less of a problem, as far as Bubba’s health is concerned. Bubba seemed fine, and he seemed to confirm the diagnosis of a cold, as he had normal sneezes as well as the reverse sneeze.
I put him up on the couch and he curled up to nap. Buddy moved around, licking and chewing on his toys, and watching the world go by out the front door. I turned the heat back and and opened up to let in some fresh air, after having locked down during the storm to keep the wind from pushing in the rain.
By 9:30, Buddy had already finished off the day food.
8:30 am
The guys were awake and ready to go this morning. Bubba had moved into the bedroom and was lounging in one of the beds, but not even resting with his head down. Buddy was at the door, and as soon as I came started his belly grind to tell me he wanted to walk. Bubba was ready to walk, too. I checked for accidents – none – and put out the food to broth while we walked, and we went out.
The rain was gone, it was gorgeous out, and the ground was soaked from the rain. Perfect for guys with noses to the ground, as the rain always brings out the smells of the Earth. But these guys just wanted to poop, go for a short stroll and then return home.
We only walked about 20 minutes. Both guys pooped.
