Friday the 9th. Late catchup
9:30 pm
The guys went to bed around 7. It has thrown my inner clock entirely off. It feels like midnight. They got their usual 10:30 pm second wind before 8. Bubba got up once to pee, then gave me the “put me back on the couch, dude” stare.
Bubba was asleep in Buddy’s Perch, and had a coughing fit that was a bit rough before 9. I went over to sit with him, and pet him while he worked through it. It sounded really dry, and painful, but ask usual the second the coughing stopped, the tail started wagging. It doesn’t seem to bother him at all except during. The coughing calmed down, and Bubba walked around the couch rubbing the top of his head against the cushions, as he does. I have no idea what that behavior is about. While he did that, I focused on watching a Whitesnake video on my phone. Then I heard him run back to me, and I looked up, surprised at the rush of movement, then surprised to see it was Buddy. He had moved in to steal the attention getting.
Bubba came back, and was surprisingly willing to share the attention time. I thought he’d try to Alpha the competition out of his way, or whine at us. But he just stood. So I slid over, and utilized both hands to administer attention to everyone at the same time.

When I put out dinner, Buddy waited. I think he does that to avoid the wrath of the Alpha. He used to charge in, and sometimes got bullied off the bowl (regardless of which bowl he chose, it was Bubba’s favorite bowl). Now he waits. Bubba decided to start dinner with day food. After eating day food for a while, he sniffed the closest dinner bowl. I wondered if the food had gone off, since neither guy seemed interested, and they didn’t eat much last night. But then Bubba moved over to the remaining bowl, and started eating. If the food was bad in one bowl, it would have been bad in both. I don’t understand the thought process. The bowls were washed at the same time last night. The food was prepared at the same time today. And yet, for some reason, one bowl is preferred.
Buddy cleared up any question of reluctance over food quality, and promptly obliterated a bowl and a half of dinner as soon as Bubba was finished.
And now, they’re sleeping. It’s too early to start clean up, but I think they’re already long-done for the day.
