5:15 pm

Bubba finally had his meds, so now we have two well-medicated dudes.  I had to mix in a lot of extra liver treats dust to finally get him to where he couldn’t resist.  The healthcare cocktail was okay for Buddy, but meds, glucosamine and pro-biotics all at once was probably too much for Bubba’s sophisticated palate.

4:25 pm

Bubba finally decided to get dressed.  We went across the street for a short walk.  We were out about 35 minutes.  Bubba pooped, Buddy did not.

2 pm-ish (out of order)

Buddy and I played some fetch.  I had run to get my mail, and when I came back I noticed there were no toys tossed around.  I looked at Buddy and asked, “where’s your bunny?”  He knows that word.  He ran and got one of his bunnies out of the basket.  I had no choice but to play, since I was the one that brought it up.

I moved down to the bedroom door, my standard spot to throw the toy.  He ran ahead of me into the bedroom.  I feigned a throw – and he fell for it for just a second.  I’ve done it too many times, and he knows that it’s likely a fake throw.  So I turned and faked throwing the bunny into the living room.  He used to sprint out of the bedroom to it when I’d do that, but he’s figured out that trick, too.  So I tried something new – I faked throwing into the living room, then tossed the bunny into the leash basket, and then I was able to show him my empty hands.

He first looked all around him, then realized I must have thrown it away from the bedroom, and he came running.  But he slammed on the brakes after he came out of the bedroom.

3:15 pm

I ran home.  I got a drink, stopped to chat with my roommate a moment, and came back.  I opened the door a crack, expecting a nose to peek out.  But there was no nose.  I waited a moment, and no nose came to investigate.  I opened the door, no Buddy.  My eyes went to the back of the bed, Buddy’s normal napping point, but he was no there.  I looked in the beds.  Bubba was in the piano bed, and the other two were empty.  I didn’t hear Buddy moving around.  I looked out on the deck, then moved into the bedroom.  He wasn’t in the dog beds, and not on the people bed.  I started to feel panic.  I tried thinking back to when I went home, wondering if I accidentally let him out.

I called out to unhearing ears, “Bubba, where’s Buddy????”

Out in the living room, I heard the sound of paws landing on the hardwood floor.  Buddy, having heard me call out his name, jumped off the recliner to come see why I was calling him.  The poor guy was enjoying some napping time and I ruined it.

3 pm

Went to Ralph’s.  I accidentally left a box of chicken broth out of the fridge all day, and the brand new bag of bone broth was thick – disturbingly thick.  I didn’t trust it, and followed the “when in doubt throw it out” mantra.  I picked up a box each of Swanson’s beef and box of chicken broths.

11:15 am

Buddy really loves his bunnies.

I was followed to the laundry room when I took the toy basket full of toys to be washed.  I only left behind one toy – the skunk.   After being washed, the toy basket was mostly dry, and just needed some airing-out, so it was set to hang on a dining room chair.  The rest of the toys were put into the dryer, and left to finish overnight.

The next day, I picked up the basket to go fetch the toys.  Picking up the basket got Buddy’s attention.  He sat up, ears perked up, eyes wide.  He ran over to the laundry room door when I went in.  His excitement level maxed-out when I came back out, the empty toy basket now filled.  When I put it down, he went straight to work and pulled out his two favorites.

A day later, the bunnies had not moved in at least 12 hours.  They had been chewed on a couple of times, but not moved.  This morning, they were still there.  But almost everything else in the basket had been pulled out and tossed around.

The morning started with a walk.  Buddy and I went out alone.  Bubba wasn’t interested.  It was just a bathroom run, and then back home.

We worked on medication late in the morning.  Buddy ate all of his – today a full cocktail of tasty things, plus 3 meds: joint meds, digestion meds, and the flea medication.  Mixed with filet mignon and liver treats, Buddy gobbled it up.  Bubba eat a starter bit, but then turned his nose up at the rest.  We’ll work in Bubba’s later.
