Wednesday. Late catch-up post.
It’s finals week, and cramming has ruined DogLog habits. Everything is fine!
6:13
Bubba is dreaming. Little muffled woofs started coming from the fireplace bed. I always think it’s the start of a coughing fit when it starts, but he doesn’t move, except the little bit of body movement caused by pushing out the “woof”.
2:55
It could have barely been 5 minutes after FINALLY adding a log post, stating that they guys didn’t want to walk – and Bubba got up out of bed and wanted to walk. At least he did it before I was able to get back into “the zone” so it was less of a disruption.
Bubba really didn’t want to go. We just got to the sidewalk at the bottom of the stairs, and he refused to go any further. Buddy typically aborts when Bubba aborts, where Bubba will still walk if Buddy wants to quit – but Buddy didn’t want to go home. He stopped at the bottom of the stairs, rather than run up the stairs ahead of us. I tethered the leash to the hand rail, and let Bubba inside.
The ensuing walk was short. We walked over by the mailboxes, then down the path between our building and the next. He was searching for shade. He wanted to poop under a neighbor’s stairs, out of the sun, and then we headed back home.
Late morning
Both guys got revenge for me tricking them. Bubba had a very-loose poop in the bathroom, after only having gone an hour or so earlier. Mid afternoon, Buddy went out on the very-hot deck when I ran home to have lunch. Both guys demonstratively declined walks the few times I offered to take a break from school work.
8:30 am
I fooled them! I knew they’d be working on their plan. Either I’d be thinking they needed rest and let them sleep until 9, or I’d count on them being early risers, and I’d show up at 8. No matter which I chose, they’d have a plan. I’d either be too late, or too early. So I did neither.
There were no accidents. A bunny was left just outside the bathroom in front of the pee pad. It was my fault, not Buddy’s. It was (badly) thrown by me, for Buddy to chase into the bedroom to fetch. But I hit the wall, and Buddy, from the living room, watched me throw it, but had no interest in playing. I remembered to pick it up so it so the Alpha wouldn’t soil it to show his disapproval, but then after changing both pee pads, forgot. So the bunny sat there overnight, and – as expected – he had to be declared a public biohazard in the morning, and quarantined to the bathroom for washing. The Alpha is pretty clear about the rules – it was entirely my fault.
I showed up right on time. And they weren’t ready. I opened the door, and Buddy jumped off the couch. He didn’t hear me come. They weren’t both at the door already playing. But they also weren’t both in deep sleep, resting from a couple of late nights in a row. They both got up when I got in – and both seemed surprised (probably my imagination) to see me. I out-tricked the tricksters.
They immediately were up and ready for a walk, so we did that. We stayed entirely in the neighborhood today. Both guys pooped by the dog park, which is still a quiet place since the young dog owners moved away. There were no friends to visit with, so we continued on. I let the guys just explore, except when we got over by the path that leads towards the area where Jessica lives. Bubba wanted to go that way, but that was one fight he was not winning. Not today. I was not in the mood to deal with crazies.
We were gone 40-45 minutes. Both guys pooped.
