Bubba Timeline
Harbor walk [6+ months ago, still looking for date]
We parked by Baby Beach and walked towards the south end of the harbor, Can’t remember how far we went, but past the bridge to the island. He was fine the entire way until we got back and were walking by where the Pilgrim used to be moored, by the Ocean Institute, and he got scared by a sandy planter area, and we had to go around. Isolated incident, never thought about it again.
Harbor island walk [2-3 months ago, still looking for date]
We walked on the sidewalk along the western channel. He would walk on the inside side of the sidewalk, but not the side of the sidewalk closest to the water. He was really terrified, locking down his feet, crouched in a cat-like defensive stance, ears flattened down and his tail tucked. Before I noticed, the leash had locked when reaching full length and his paws dragged along the cement – he trying to dig in and resist being pulled. When picked up, he was fine, and interested in looking at the water and the squirrels. This persisted the entire walk, including when we looped around the end of the island and he was afraid of the outside which faced the boat slips.

We walked down Green Lantern to the view area near the Nature Center. Buddy ran out onto the platform to sniff and explore. I wanted to get pics of both guys with the harbor/ocean behind them, but Bubba won’t go onto the platform, and crouches down like a cat, eats flattened, tail tucked.

Walk on Amber Lantern to the view area. Bubba will only walk on the sidewalk on the side away from the harbor. He was terrified of getting to the side of the sidewalk with the fence. When picked up and carried to the fence, he’s fine and looks out at the harbor and the ocean, completely calm. I sit down on one of the concrete benches and put him down to sit next to me, and he immediately starts to shake. When put down on the ground and walk away, he’s fine again.

2:45 pm – We met up with my mother around the first set of picnic tables, who joined us the rest of the walk and witnessed Bubba’s behavior. We walked across the street at the park, on the view walk sidewalk, from one side of the park to the other, by the restrooms. We then turn around, and around half way back he starts crouching into the defensive stance. First indication was a wobble, where he looked drunk, or like he was hallucinating a pole and navigating walking with his leash and dealing with the imaginary pole. It was quick and only lasted a couple of seconds. I really didn’t notice it until it was over.
Then he started being scared of one side of the sidewalk, and refused to be on the side closest to the ocean. At the southern-most entrance to the park, he was afraid of the sidewalk on the park side sidewalk. He was afraid to walk onto the sidewalk, and resisted, then sprinted the few feet over it and straight out into the street, then was calm the rest of the walk hom.

10 am – Bubba goes out for a walk at 10am and it’s fine. We stayed in the neighborhoodBubba trips on the stairs, had issues with fear once walking at the bottom of the stairs.
1:45 pm – Bubba slips and falls down two steps, onto landing, when we go out. He looks scared walking half way across the complex, looks better on walk back.
December 3rd

First day that Bubba would not come outside. He would stand at the threshold of the door with his front paws out on the landing, but was too afraid to come out.
